Pistacia lentiscus, a truly lovable Mediterranean plant. It is not as common and widespread as, say, a Japanese maple or a Juniper in the bonsai world, but this does not mean that it cannot be grown into an excellent bonsai. It is a heat-loving evergreen outdoor plant, it likes lots of sunlight, which should be treated as a cold house plant in the winter. It also tolerates hot summer days well, however, we must take care of the continuous moisture of the soil, as Pistachios do not tolerate long-term dry conditions well, in which case it is recommended to water them 2 times a day. Several things can be considered as planting medium, such as 100% Akadama, or a mixture of Akadama and peat, or Frux bonsai soil mixture. During the growth period, ensure continuous nutrient supply with organic solid or liquid fertilizer. Organic, degradable fertilizers are recommended, such as Biogold or Bio-green. Pruning can be done throughout the year, but spring-summer pruning is more optimal for this period.
