Beautiful as always for me - an autumn shohin bonsai in red
Beautiful as always for me - an autumn shohin bonsai in red and blue. Autumn is here after the summer. Although the fall colors of the deciduous Bonsai trees are hard to come by this year, they are now finally catching up with the season. The colors have arrived. Reds, oranges and yellows. Warm colors for the cold and variety for the leaves. What is especially beautiful is that many plants adorn not only their beautiful foliage but also their fruits - such as the bonsai of Euonymus alatus (Winged Goat). The plant was propagated from sowing in Japan and raised there to its present state. We planted it in a more pleasant bonsai bowl, the color of which fits in well with the foliage or the leafless state of winter with only fruit. In addition, for a couple of years we have only managed its branch structure - sometimes with a little wire, sometimes with a little pruning, and especially like its busy bent trunk.
"A shohin bonsai is really good shohin bonsai if it looks good in every season."
Euonymus alatus - an undiscovered bonsai star?
The Winged Goat is really suitable for bonsai. It is easy to care for and does not require too much care. It's tiny foliage and tiny decorative fruit allow for small-scale education. If the plant is in a bright spot in the garden and receives plenty of nutrients, almost all the bonsai scissors need is once or twice during the summer. If we keep it in a very sunny place, the autumn foliage will be really beautiful and it will become perhaps the most beautiful decoration of our garden.
"It is incomprehensible why Euonymus are so rare at bonsai exhibitions. It's an easy plant ... and how beautiful!"
Euonymus alatus is not a common plant at bonsai exhibitions. Few have and few have seen it live. Perhaps the reason is that Bonsai collectors haven't discovered enough for themselves - and here they are, as they say. It is problem free, has a strong root and develops rapidly. It is beautiful when growing in spring, it has a beautiful flower, it is very compact, it does not joke in summer and autumn if you have to show many shades of red and burgundy. Even in winter, its spectacular fruit is playfully tiny and draws attention to its colors.
Even in the summer, we made some photos of its current appearance and waited impatiently for the fall photos to accompany it. We wanted to show the difference between summer and autumn canopy. The time has come for this to happen and we have been wondering since we haven't shown you this plant yet. Of course, those who have been to our horticulture have also seen our other Euonymus bonsai, which are also the result of Japanese bonsai education. One of our customers once asked what's the secret to these Euonymuses. We told him, as we are now describing to you: The secret is that there is no secret. We do them the same way as other outdoor deciduous bonsai trees. Maybe we can recommend you use shohin bonsai tools for shohin!
