Zanthoxyllum piperitum - Japanese pepper 12B (in 12 cm pot):

It is native to central and eastern Asia, from the Himalayas to Japan. The crumbly, brownish, winged complex leaves of its bark rubbed with a pleasant, spicy peppery scent. Its small flowers are yellowish-green. Dicotyledonous species.
It can be kept as an indoor bonsai, demanding heat and light. In Hungary, it can be placed outdoors in a semi-shady place during the summer. Water-demanding species, always keep the soil evenly moist. Pruning can be done from spring to autumn, the elongated shoots are cut back into two pairs of leaves. We also wire it in the spring, making sure its branches can break easily. Every two years in the spring period it is advisable to repotting it into AKADAMA or FRUX bonsai soil. Nutrient replenishment can be achieved with BIOGOLD or OSMOCOTE.
