Quercus ilex, commonly known as Holm oak as raw material bonsai. Two extraordinary qualities of Quercus are taken into account when thinking about bonsai upbringing. One is the awesome massive trunk and rough, highly textured bark that lends the tree an older age. In terms of location, oak trees require full, direct sunlight. However, in areas where summers are hot and dry, the trees should be grown in a place where we can get filtered afternoon sunlight.
Regarding watering, add water to the tree regularly, always keeping the soil moist. Do not allow the soil to dry out as it will not tolerate dry planting medium well for a long time. In terms of soil, well-drained soil is important for it. If possible, mix 60% Akadama, 40% organic medium. Nutrient replenishment is necessary throughout the growth period. We recommend Bio-Green in liquid form and Biogold cubes in solid form. Pruning is best done in early spring, when the tree begins to grow actively and has very elongated shoots. Always remove unwanted shoots. Keep in mind that most oaks are very sensitive to wiring. However, any wiring must be done with care, as the bark can easily be easily damaged.
