This shrub is excellent for bonsai, native to central and eastern Asia, from the Himalayas to Japan. Its crusty, brownish-colored, winged leaves give off a pleasant, spicy peppery scent when rubbed. Its small flowers are yellowish-green. A dioecious species.

Water-demanding species, always keep the soil evenly moist. Pepper tree bonsai can be pruned from spring to autumn, the elongated shoots are cut back to two pairs of leaves. We also wire it in the spring, making sure that its branches can easily break. Every two years in the spring, it is advisable to transplant into AKADAMA or FRUX bonsai soil. Nutrient replenishment can be solved with BIOGOLD or OSMOCOTE.
