The Elephant Bush is a succulent shrub native to South Africa, which has now spread throughout the world and has become a popular plant in the world of bonsai and ornamental plants. A real warm-loving plant, it really likes a bright and direct sunny place. When kept in the right environment and with proper care, it is a very fast-growing plant that is an ideal choice for beginner bonsai keepers. The advantage of the Spekboom is that it can adapt to most environmental conditions, it is a hardy plant. In terms of watering, let the soil dry out a little between two waterings during the growth period. Overwatering is more likely than underwatering for this succulent plant. Portulacaria can outdoor conditions withstand temperatures up to 5 °C. During the winter period, when kept indoors, watering should be moderate/minimal , which means that it should be watered 1-2 times a month, because during the winter period the foliage of the Elephant Shrub does not develop and the too much watering then leads to root rot. For growth and continuous fertilization, organic fertilizers are best suited for this, such as Bio-green or Bonsai Focus, maybe Biogold or BonsaiMaster. It is important to use soil with good drainage. In terms of planting medium, the 100% Akadama or Akadama + Peat mixture is ideal for it. However, more mixed soil is also suitable for it, which is a little more clayey and gravelly.
