Acer palmatum, also known as Japanese maple, is coming from China, Korea and Japan. It is characterized by rich and curly leaves with a stiffer branch system. The color of its tiny, slightly curly leaves takes on a fuller shade of green all year round, and orange-red in autumn. It also bring reddish-purple flowers in the spring, around April-May. “Shishigashira” is a compact, slow-growing form. The name ‘Shishigashira’ also means ‘lion head’, in several places also referred to as lion head maple. When we look at the magnificent autumn gold-bronze foliage of this Japanese maple, it is easy to see how this majestic appearance relates to the lion’s mane.
'Shishigashira' is one of the most prominent and popular plants in the bonsai world worldwide.
Neccesary to choose acidic soil for grown. You can protect this plant, if you're planting into filtered lights. It also tolerates direct sunlight well, but for more active growth we therefore recommend a semi-shaded, yet bright place for optimal growth.
