Juniperus chinensis 'Itoigawa' is one of the most sought after junipers in Japan due to its unique soft "cloud" -like foliage. Itoigawa is native to Japan, the Kurile Islands, and the Itoigawa Peninsula. Its natural habitus is spread out, it likes stony, well-drained soils. In its natural range, it most often grows near the sea. The foliage is needle-like on young trees and scaly on older trees. Its fruit is a tiny, hard, bluish berry that is recommended to be removed for energy consumption. Wiring is best done in the fall or early winter so that the branches can get used to their new position while the tree is at rest. Transplanting is best done in the spring. If necessary, the juniper can be transplanted in late summer-early autumn, as this is when it enters a period of root growth renewal.
The tree is Moyogi style. Sharis lend a natural effect.
