Ulmus parvifolia 'Corticosa' pre-bonsai 04.:

Ulmus parvifolia 'Corticosa' bonsai precursor in shohin size category, commonly known as Chinese elm. If possible, we provide him with full sunshine and / or filtered light. However, in order to develop healthily, you need more light, it also likes direct sunlight, but not the extreme heat or scorching sun. In temperate climates, even in the winter months, it is possible to leave it outdoors until strong frosts arrive. In winter, it is best to take our plant to a cool but frost-free room for the winter. In the case of overwintering, it is advisable to protect the root ball from frost with a natural covering material (eg mulch or straw). The Chinese elm usually tolerates some frost, but it depends on which region it was imported from. Trees from northern China are much more resistant to frost than trees from southern areas. Depending on the winter temperature, spring leaves or drops the leaves of the Chinese elm until the new shoots hatch. It is advisable to keep the soil moist at all times, to avoid overwatering and stagnant water. Prolonged dry media can impair the health of the tree and therefore requires increased attention. In winter, dormancy may not be needed after dormancy, but growth supplementation works well with a combination of solid organic fertilizer and balanced liquid fertilizer (BIOGOLD feed cube and / or MATSU Bio-Green liquid nutrient solution). The tree can also be grown by pruning, not only with wiring, and within a few years you can decorate your garden or patio as a spectacular shohin bonsai.

In the case of young trees, the bark is slightly softer, full of gaps and cracks. Because of this, mosses settle on it very easily, so it's worth taking it off the bark. If the mosses are left on for a long time, they will attract moisture and there is a risk that the bark will rot. Or worse, the air layer of the tree itself will take on new roots in very comfortable places.
