It is named after the Dutch botanist Berthout van Berchem and has some great qualities that fit perfectly into the world of bonsai. It is a creeper with a small to medium growth form. A useful shohin or mame-sized tree can be grown from it in a number of styles, including the semi-cascade. They come from Africa and Asia and have an attractive little egg crop. The appearance of the bark when it develops is rough-textured, fluffy and slightly corky, but smooth on young trees. The new shoots are reddish in color and the fall color is spectacular. It is flowering tree, has star-like flowers, they form in clusters on the stem, followed by small fruits.
The spectacular and at the same time wavy trunk of the tree and its richer branch system give the tree an aesthetic appearance. In terms of its care, it likes a medium with good drainage, so the Akadama + Kiryuzuna mixture is ideal for it. It is relatively drought tolerant, but it is worth keeping your soil a little wetter.
