Although native to parts of the Middle East and Asia, the pomegranate tree is now common in many parts of the world. Pomegranate is a tree with rich foliage and wider leaves. The tree is famous for its fruit, but the flowers are also wonderful in their own right. The bark is grey-brown, smooth on young trees, becomes furrowed and eye-pleasing with age.
Pomegranate requires a warm, sunny and airy place during the growing season and is not a frost-tolerant tree. In hot and dry weather conditions, pomegranate bonsai in small pots should be protected from the hot afternoon sun in summer. On the other hand, they must also be protected from frost and treated as cold house plants. Frost-free rooms with temperatures between 2 and 8°C are ideal for winter. When watering, pay attention to the fact that if the soil surface is dry, water the plant. When the flowers bloom and during the summer season, it needs more water than usual. Keep the soil slightly moist in winter. If possible, we avoid limy water, in the long term we do not favor the development of the tree. It is recommended to repot the pomegranate in the spring in every two or three years, before leaf buds would open. The roots can be pruned stronger at this time. Pomegranate likes slightly acidic or neutral soil with good drainage, such as akadama or akadama and kiryuzuna mix. For rich flowering and fruit yield, use suitable organic fertilizer, which can be Bio-green or Biogold nutrient, but Bonsai Focus is also a good choice.
