Styrax japonica, commonly known as the Japanese snowbell tree. Styrax is a deciduous tree with a spectacular branching system and one of its most recognizable features is its fabulous, glittering, bell-shaped white flowers. The flowers begin to open in early summer with bright yellow stamens. In addition to the spectacle of the flowers, the bright colors of autumn are also worth mentioning. When flowering is complete, the fruits also develop.
It is recommended to protect them from strong cold winds in winter, ideally placed in a bright place in filtered light, away from the direct scorching sun in summer. In the winter, he should definitely find a frost-free place because he does not tolerate stronger frosts well. As for pruning, flowering is avoided so that the flower buds remain intact, but the dead branches can be removed at any time. If wiring is needed to improve the structure of the wood, do it during the growing season. For older trees, the branches are quite stiff and fragile, while in younger trees they are much more flexible and easier to shape. It is necessary to water daily in spring and summer, always keep the soil moist. In the winter months, the planting medium should be slightly drier to avoid root rot. Nutrient replenishment is required during the growing season and does not require nutrition during the vegetative period. As for the soil, you need a larger grain of well-drained soil for optimal drainage, so the Akadama + Kiryuzuna mix may be ideal for Styrax.
