Olea europea bonsai, common name in the well-known Olive tree planted in a glazed pot. The olive tree is not one of the hard-to-grow bonsai, even beginners can enjoy it. What you need to know about Olea is that you need a place full of sunshine, because as a plant from a Mediterranean place, it really like sunbathing. In winter, it is worth following a few steps in wintering the plant. It can also withstand temperatures below 0 ° C, but we need to take care to protect the tree from stronger frosts. It is best to place the olive tree in a frost cold house during this period, where the temperature fluctuates between 5-10 ° C and it is important to ensure the right amount of light. Watering the Olea thoroughly if you feel the soil is dry, but you should be careful not to get stagnant water in your soil. Good quality normal tap water is just fine for the olive tree anyway, but if we have the opportunity to give it rainwater, choose it with a calm heart. The root development of the olive tree is a traditional slow process, so it is recommended to transplant it every 2-3 years for younger trees as well. We must ensure that the soil is properly permeable to water. Mixed with the akadama of pumice stone, it is optimal for Olea. Pumice stone is structurally very stable, its pH is slightly alkaline due to its lime content, which is favorable for olive trees.
Strong pruning, if necessary, is recommended at the end of winter. The olives will then react with the next spring growth. If the new shoots grow too long, cut them back into one or two pairs of leaves.
For growth it is definitely recommended to fertilize the plant, for which the Biogold organic nutrient cube or BonsaiMaster organic fertilizer may be ideal.
